FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A 20-year-old Chalkyitsik man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of another village resident in a Fairbanks apartment.
Billy Jo Druck is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Adam Bryan Francis in the neck about 11 p.m. Thursday. Alcohol appears to have been a factor, according to police.
''By all accounts, at some point they got into an argument, and it escalated from there,'' said Fairbanks Police Sgt. Dan Hoffman.
Druck was arrested not far from the apartment and police say there was blood on his clothes. He admitting stabbing Francis, according to charging documents.
Police found a bloody kitchen knife in the apartment. And they say they have an eyewitness to the stabbing.
The fatal wound was apparently not the only time that Francis had been stabbed in recent days, officers said.
On the day preceding his death, Francis was treated at the Fairbanks hospital for a laceration to his forearm, police said. Francis did not report that injury to authorities.
''Our investigation right now indicates Druck may (also) have been responsible for that,'' said Hoffman.
Druck was arraigned Friday and asked for a court-appointed lawyer. He was being held at Fairbanks Correctional Center on $250,000 bail.
