Sterling Elementary

Mrs. Martin's kindergartners and Mrs. Harrison's first-graders are celebrating their annual Thanksgiving family feast today. Parents and siblings of students from the classrooms will arrive early. The teachers and students would like to thank all of the parents who help to provide food for this annual school-family celebration.

The staff and students will collect nonperishable food items and new toys to be distributed to families in the Sterling area over the holidays. Anyone knows of a family in need of a little assistance during the holidays can call Mrs. Eastham at 262-4944. Information provided will remain confidential. More information will follow in the school newsletter. The school hopes to inspire its students to give something back to their community by participating in these projects.

Parents are reminded that all entries for the National PTA Reflections Fine Arts Project must to be turned in by Dec. 1. Original literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts that express "I am happy when ..." will be judged at the school level the first week of December, with winning entries sent to the Alaska State PTA for judging on the state level.

The PTA also sponsors nationally recognized artist and UAA art professor Graham Dane, who will be a guest at the school for two weeks in December. He will work with every student and create a mural for the library.
