'Tis the season for Christmas lights, egg nog and great holiday sales. I love the decorations during this time of year, so colorful and festive the more, the merrier.

With the holidays quickly catching up with us, the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center is trying to help by offering a free holiday gift wrapping table at the center. Items can be dropped off for wrapping. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call 776-7654.

Don't forget to attend "The Last Vanishing Act" at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Dec. 7 and 8 at the Nikiski High School auditorium. The musical in two acts was written by Joe Rizzo, performed by the drama department, with choreography by Chris Morin and set designs by Phil Morin. The cost of tickets is $10 at the door. There will be a teen night held at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information and date, call Tammy at 776-8800.

A game night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Nikiski Senior Center. For more information, call 776-7654.

The monthly Nikiski Senior Center Board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at the center. The meeting is open to public comment from 12:45 to 1 p.m.

A Christmas program will be held at Nikiski High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 featuring the students of Nikiski North Star's prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grade classes.

The Nikiski North Star preschool program meets at 9:30 a.m. Fridays in classroom 12. The class is for kids under the age of 4. Participants will be involved in art projects and playtime and a snack will be served. Parents will rotate bringing snacks and projects. For more information, call Jenny at 776-5575.

Nikiski resident Dustin Abel returned in October from a year-long deployment with the first infantry, 34th Armor division Charlie Company in the United States Army. This was his second tour in Iraq since he joined the Army in 2003. He is currently stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., with his wife and daughter.

Zion Truth

Lila and Reuben Henderson of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Zion Truth, at 12:28 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at home with help from Women's Way Midwifery in Soldotna. He weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces.

He joins sisters, Hosanna, Jubilee and Maranatha.

His grandparents are John and Carol Broussard of Nikiski and Jim and Carla Henderson of Hickory, N.C.



Malakai Victor

Darc and Clay McCaughey of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Malakai Victor, at 12:33 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. He weighed 8 pounds, 9.5. ounces and measured 20 inches.

He joins sister, Skylynne Marie, 8 and Kalie Rae, 4, and brother, Kobe William Ruel, 3.

His grandparents are B.K. Kivi of Nikiski and Calvin Gourley, Nancy Henrickson and Brian McCaughey of Tacoma, Wash. His great-grandmother is Doris Porter of Nikiski.
