The 2001 Soldotna High School Boys Cross Country Team has proven they are champions indeed. For the third time they went to the state competition as the team that everyone wanted to beat, but no one could.
Led by state champion Kyle McBride, the SoHi boys team coached by Mark Devenney and Dan Harbison, won the State Championship for the third year in a row, defeating the Region III champions, Palmer by 10 points. McBride taking his second consecutive state meet against the Anchorage schools. Unanimously, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly passed a Resolution commending the SoHi team at last weeks meeting and praised the team of Kyle McBride, Brent Knight, Ben Histand, Bill Keller, Joe Blanchard, Evan Haupt, and Daniel Harro, for their superb performance.
Assemblymen Pete Sprague read from the text of the Resolution, "each team member held a firm belief that they could accomplish their year-long goal, and with their superb efforts all during this season, they did." Congratulations to the SoHi team.
