Setting the record straight on 'Seven honored for heroism'

There are a couple things that I would like to correct in your Nov. 21 story "Seven honored for heroism." One is it was Daniel Blanchard in the boat with me, and the other is it is not Amelia Blanchard it is Amaila Blanchard.

I speak for all the Blanchards when we say it is a honor to receive this award, but we feel that it is Mr. Halsey that deserves all the honor and glory. Without him doing the miracle that he did, no one would have any knowledge that there were other people out there.

Like Mr. Osmar said, we only did what any other fisherman would have done at the time.

Public posting of settlement helps educate public about labor issues

I would like to thank the Kenai Peninsula Central Labor Council for the approval to advertise in order to publicly post the recent settlement between the National Labor Relations Board and Austin Maintenance and Construction Inc.

By posting the settlement in the Peninsula Clarion for three consecutive days, the constitution of the Kenai Peninsula Central Labor Council is upheld. That constitution in part states: "We pledge ourselves to the more effective organization of working men and women; to the securing to them of full recognition and enjoyment of the rights to which they are justly entitled; to the achievement of ever higher standards of living and working conditions; to the attainment of security for all the people; to the enjoyment of the leisure which their skills make possible; and to the strengthening and extension of our way of life and the fundamental freedoms which are the basis of our democratic society."

It is the objective of the KPCLC to further community education of labor's viewpoint while maintaining harmonious relations within the community.

Love can help killer whales

Concerning the killer whales in Prince William Sound: Love is the greatest force in the universe. I encourage interested people -- men, women, children and groups of people -- to turn to the whales in their minds and send love.

Thank you.
