Area chambers set schedule

Chambers of Commerce speaker for the upcoming week include:

The North Peninsula chamber will not meet today due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Bill Popp, Kenai Peninsula Borough oil and gas liaison, will be the featured speaker at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. For more information, call Shanon Hamrick at 262-9814.

Driving the future of Alaska's oil patch will be the topic of discussion at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Wednesday at Paradisos. Mike Stophlet, president and CEO of ASRC Energy Services, will speak. Lunch is $10.50. For more information, call 283-7989.

Sen. Tom Wagner, R-Kenai, will be the featured speaker at the North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Dec. 4 at North Kenai Baptist Church. For more information, call Fred Miller at 776-8555.

Homer banks to extend hours

Beginning Dec. 6, both First National Bank Alaska and Wells Fargo in Homer will be open on Saturdays.

First National Bank Alaska will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit

Wells Fargo's Saturday hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wells Fargo will have bankers available to its customers to open new accounts and provide customer service.

Area residents appointed to hotel committee

The Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association recently announced its 2003-04 board of directors.

Jon Faulkner of Land's End Resort in Homer was appointed vice chair on the executive committee, and Brad Snowden of Best Western Hotel Seward was appointed a regional director.

The Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association is a nonprofit trade association that represents 80 percent of the lodging rooms in Alaska and 40 industry suppliers.

Cellular One NASCAR to visit Soldotna, Kenai

Cellular One will have its number 87 Cellular One Chevy Monte Carlo NASCAR on display in Soldotna and Kenai. The car will be in Soldotna from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Peninsula Center Mall and in Kenai from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Safeway parking lot.

Visitors and racing fans will receive a limited edition Joe Nemechek Hero card and be able to view the car up-close.

This is the fourth year that Cellular One has sponsored race car driver Joe Nemechek in the Busch Grand National Series.

Four D Carpet One to donate books

Four D Carpet One in Soldotna, in conjunction with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation will be donating Disney storybooks to area children.

Small business tax workshop scheduled

The Small Business Development Center is sponsor a workshop titled "It's Tax Time, Are you Ready?" from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Red Diamond Center.

Debra Blackley of Caribou Run will be the instructor. The workshop is targeted for new business owners and will give help with preparing this year's data.
