Seaton, Cissna to discuss health insurance

Reps. Sharon Cissna and Paul Seaton will host an affordable health insurance work group meeting at 11 a.m. Friday at Captain's Coffee in Homer. Cissna and Seaton are both members of the House Health, Education and Social Services Committee. For more information, call Cissna's office at (907) 269-0190. Collect calls will be accepted.

Nikiski council to discuss projects

The Nikiski Community Council and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly are co-sponsoring a community meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. The borough assembly is developing its 2004 Capital Project Priorities List and has agreed to include a maximum of two capital project requests from each unincorporated community in the borough.

The Nikiski capital project priorities list will be discussed and formed at this meeting. Nikiski residents are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Fred Miller at 776-8555.

Mission fund-raiser planned

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church will hold a "Cookies Buy the Pound" fund-raiser beginning at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 in Kenai. There will be a huge selection of homemade speciality cookies and pastries. All proceeds will go to its youth mission program.

Snaring seminar slated

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will hold a snaring seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 at the refuge headquarters. Local trappers will demonstrate various trapping methods. The snaring seminar is not the trapper orientation class needed to obtain a permit to trap on the Kenai refuge. Participants are asked to dress for the weather. For more information, call 262-7021.

Youth bowlers to hold fund-raiser

The Kenai Peninsula Youth Bowlers will hold a rummage-bake sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at The Diamond Rose inside the Alaska Lanes Bowing Center in Kenai. The proceeds will go to fund travel expenses for the team to stay in Fairbanks. For more information, call Cheryl Conte at 283-4456.

Soldotna tree-lighting ceremony set

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its third annual Parker Park tree lighting ceremony from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center and Parker Park. The evening's activities will include Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving by fire engine, children having their picture taken with Santa, free refreshments by Isabell's Catering, caroling by the Kenai Carolers and free sleigh rides.
