Miller takes lightweight title

Area fighter Jimmy Miller won the Peninsula Fight Challenge/X Fights Lightweight Title on Saturday night at the Soldotna Sports Center in the Peninsula Fight Challenge.

Miller defeated Jeff Bailey of Fairbanks just 1 minute, 21 seconds, into the first round with a rear naked choke hold.

Fairbanks fighters won the three other fights in which they were involved.

Brandon Morgan of Fairbanks defeated area fighter Logan McKay 1:08 into the first round when McKay submitted to strikes.

Caleb Dunkley of Fairbanks submitted area fighter Evan Perkins to a rear naked choke 1:02 into the second round.

Finally, Garrit Butler of Fairbanks submitted area fighter Brandy Goracke to an arm bar in the second round.

There also were four fights involving only area fighters.

Ronnie Sherbahn defeated Jason Martin 20 seconds into the second round on submission to strokes.

Sean Whitmore defeated Jason Monica 37 seconds into the first round on a rear naked choke.

Pedro McCall defeated Jesse Beck in 1:44 into the first round on a rear naked choke.

Finally, Mike Fischer defeated Mike Woodward in the first round on submission to strikes.

The next Peninsula Fight Challenge will be Dec. 29 at the Soldotna Sports Center. The featured fight will be Dave Knight of Fairbanks matched up with Alaska Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion Kevin Barber of Anchorage. Area fighter Charlie Karron also will make his return to mixed martial arts.
