Old human remains found on Prince of Wales Island

Posted: Tuesday, November 28, 2000

PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND (AP) -- Human remains were discovered this week on Prince of Wales Island are archaeological and should not be considered a crime scene, a Forest Service archaeologist said.

Archaeologist Terry Fifield says the helicopter logging crew that discovered the remains handled them appropriately.

When the crew found the remains they called Alaska State Troopers and did not disturb the bones. Fifield said the remains are part of a typical grave setting and are at least several decades old.
