ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Laura Glaiser, a long-time legislative assistant, was named to head the state Division of Elections on Wednesday.
Lt. Gov.-elect Loren Leman, who will oversee the office, announced the appointment.
Glaiser, 42, worked as chief of staff to Sen. Pete Kelly, R-Fairbanks, and has worked for the state division of elections from 1991-92 and for former Lt. Gov. Jack Coghill.
The state Division of Elections is responsible for conducting elections around the state. Among the challenges the division faces is responding to changes in federal election law and expanding voting opportunities for people with disabilities and military personnel, Leman said.
Glaiser graduated from the University of California-Stanislaus with a bachelor's degree in political science.
