Chugach closed to snowmachines

Due to inadequate snow cover, the Chugach National Forest is closed to motorized use. The normal opening date for the forest is Dec. 1, but the forest will not open until enough snow accumulates to prevent resource damage. Fish and Game advisory committee to meet

The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Cooper Landing Ambulance Hall. The board will discuss proposals for the March 2003 Board of Fisheries meeting. For more information, call Sherry Wright at (907) 279-2354 or Bill Stockwell at (907) 595-1540.

Defensive driving class offered

A defensive driving course will be held Dec. 3 and 4 at the Kenai Senior Center. Participants who are 55 and older will receive a discount on auto insurance. Although the course is geared toward older drivers, it is open to anyone. Cost is $10. For more information, call Vivian Swanson at 260-3966.

CIRCAC board to meet in Anchorage

Biologist to discuss bears

Bear biologist Dr. Steve Stringham will discuss "The Body Language of Bears" at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. He will discuss his research into bears, his life raising orphaned cubs, some new video footage of two cubs he is working with and information about bear viewing issues in west Cook Inlet. Club to hold auction

The Peninsula Take a Break Club, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries Inc., will hold its annual auction from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at Solid Rock Conference Center, Mile 90.5 of the Sterling Highway in Soldotna.
