Chugach currently closed to motorized use

Chugach National Forest lands are currently closed to motorized use. Depending on snow cover, the opening date of Dec. 1 may be delayed. Currently, there is not enough snow to provide an adequate base to prevent resource damage.

For more information check the Web site at www.fs.fed.us/ r10/chugach or call one of the district offices: 743-9500 in Anchorage; 783-3242 in Girdwood; or 224-3374 in Seward.

Refuge to host snaring seminar

A snaring seminar will be offered at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. Local trappers will demonstrate various trapping methods.

This seminar is required for trappers to check their snares every seven days on the refuge. The snaring seminar is not the trapper orientation class required to obtain a permit to trap on the refuge.

Participants are advised to dress for outside weather. For more information, contact the refuge at 262-7021.
