Christmas trees available on refuge

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has been opened for Christmas tree cutting through Christmas Day. There is no fee. The limit is one tree per household. The public is reminded to trim the stump as close to the ground as possible for aesthetic reasons.

Trees may be taken from anywhere on the refuge except for the refuge Headquarters and Visitors Center, along Ski Hill Road or near any road, lake, stream, trail, campground or picnic area. For more information, call 262-7021.

Community remembrance celebration planned

The Hospice of the Central Peninsula will hold a Celebration of Remembrance beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at Christ Lutheran Church across from Mykel's in Soldotna.

The celebration is for community members to gather, celebrate friendships and remember those who have died. Finger foods and desserts will be served. Mike Morgan and Friends will provide the evening's music. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, call Sue at 262-0453.

Christmas cookies available

The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ will hold its 24th annual Christmas cookie sale. The boxed cookies come in assorted varieties and are sold on a preorder basis only. Cost of cookies is $4 per dozen. Orders are being taken through Dec. 5. Cookies are available for delivery or pick-up Dec. 10 to 13. Grant writing workshop set

Healthy Communities-Healthy People is sponsoring a grant writing workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 8 at Bridges. Stan Steadman will present. The cost is $35. For more information, call Cara Steadman at 394-2527.

Native Christmas bazaar planned

The Ninilchik Native Descendants will hold its annual Christmas bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Ninilchik School gym. Rental space is $10. For more information, call Jamie Leman at (907) 567-3361 or 567-3722.

Firefighters plan basketball fund-raiser

The Kenai Firefighters Association will play in a basketball game against a team of NFL and Hollywood celebrities at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Kenai Central High School gymnasium. Tickets are $12.50 for one adult or two children. For more information or tickets, call Terry Bookey at 283-7666.

Food bank to host Christmas dinner

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will host a Christmas dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 25 in its soup kitchen. Dinner is free, though donations are welcomed. The food bank is in need of volunteers. For more information or to volunteer, call Cindy at 262-3111.
