Liberty, Duke reach Shootout semis

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) Luol Deng and Daniel Ewing scored 20 points each to lead No. 2 Duke past Pacific 82-69 Thursday night in the opening round of the Great Alaska Shootout.

The Blue Devils (2-0) broke open a close game early in the second half by pounding the ball inside and making 6 of 11 3-point attempts.

Duke stayed close in the first half behind 11 points by J.J. Redick and nine by Deng, mostly scored from long range. Pacific led for more than 10 minutes before Duke took its first lead, 15-14 at 9:43 on a 3-pointer by Redick.

Six points by Ewing fueled an 11-5 run that gave the Blue Devils a 39-33 lead at halftime. Guillaume Yango led Pacific (1-1) with 12 points, and the Tigers made all six of their free throw attempts.

In today's semifinals, Wednesday winners Seton Hall and Purdue play at 5:30 p.m. and Duke and Liberty, a 65-48 victor over Canisius Thursday, play at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

On the other side of the bracket, the University of Alaska Anchorage faces Texas State at noon and Canisius faces Pacific at 2 p.m. Saturday, the seventh-place game is at noon, the fourth-place game is at 2 p.m., the third-place game is at 5:30 p.m. and the championship game is at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
