Drivers safety class scheduled

AARP is offering a driver safety class from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai River Center in Soldotna. Possible benefits are having a ticket dismissed and getting a reduction on insurance. Teens and their parents are welcome. The cost is $10 for materials. Chicken dinner fund-raiser planned

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Jerry V. Horn Memorial Post No. 10046 will hold a fried chicken dinner fund-raiser from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the post at 134 N. Birch St. in Soldotna. The cost is $10 per person. Proceeds will help defray the cost of the 2006 Department Convention. VFW ladies auxiliary members and their guests are encouraged to attend.

Soroptimist hold sweet fund-raiser

Soroptimist International of Kenai Peninsula is taking orders for See’s Candy. Proceeds from sales will help provide assistance to women on the Peninsula and the Young Women’s Conference. Holiday cookies ready to munch

The Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Church will hold its annual cookies by the dozen sale. The cost is $4 per dozen. Cookies are sold on a preorder basis only. The deadline to order is Dec. 7. Cookies will be ready for pick-up or delivery Dec. 14. Due to high demand, a limited number of orders will be taken. Dog club offers practice run-throughs

Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will host practice run-throughs for rally, obedience and conformation at its facility on Kalifornsky Beach Road Dec. 18.

Obedience and rally include all levels, and conformation is open to a mix of breeds. The cost is $5 for the first run-through and $3 for each additional one. Run-throughs are open to everyone. For more information, call Melanie at

Swim coach sought

The Soldotna Silver Salmon Swim team is seeking an assistant coach. Hours needed will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus meets. For more information, call coach Marey at Soldotna High School.
