Midnight Sun season set to start

The Peninsula Midnight Sun Volleyball Club season begins Dec. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kenai Central High School. All interested high school players are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Bruce King at 262-9501 or brucek@ptialaska.net.

Team Alaska seeks badminton players

Team Alaska announces tryouts in the sport of badminton. Athletes who are selected will be part of Alaska’s 377-person delegation to the 2006 Arctic Winter Games scheduled for March 5 through March 11 in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

The results of a tournament held Dec. 4 in the Patty Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will determine the members of the team. Alaska will take two junior males and two junior females (born 1987 or later) and two juvenile males and two juvenile

females (born 1990 or later). At the Games, competition is held in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Registration at the tournament will be from noon to 1 p.m., and competition will begin at 1 p.m. For more information on the tryouts, contact the Sport Coordinator Paul Canarsky at 907-456-4156 or 907-590-1067. Team Alaska wants snowshoers

Team Alaska has announced the team and athlete selection procedures for snowshoeing for the 2006 Arctic Winter Games. Athletes selected to this team will be part of Alaska’s 377-person delegation to the 2006 Arctic Winter Games, scheduled for March 5 through March 11 in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

Sport Coordinator Guy Thibodeau of Juneau announced that snowshoeing selection will be on a postal basis so that athletes statewide will have the opportunity to try out in their home communities. Prospective team members must set up a course in accordance with the selection procedures, record their times at the specified distances, and send their results in by mail to the Thibodeau.

There are specific equipment requirements with which candidates should familiarize themselves. Those who have questions should contact Thibodeau. Two athletes each in juvenile male and female classes (born 1990 or later) and in junior male and female classes (born 1987 or later) will be named to the team.
