Jury selection is nearly complete and opening arguments are expected to begin either today or Wednesday in the murder trial of a 24-year-old Soldotna man.
Adam Israel has been charged with the stabbing death of his mother in their home nearly two years ago.
According to Soldotna police, Adam became angry with his mother, 44-year-old Dorothy Israel, during a heated argument in the family residence on West Little Avenue on Jan. 29, 2005, and stabbed her with a kitchen knife.
Adam called 911 shortly after the stabbing at 12:13 p.m., according to Soldotna police. Dorothy was taken to Central Peninsula General Hospital and died there around 1 p.m.
Representing Adam is Ketchikan assistant public defender Marvin Hamilton, with the help of Dianne Thoben, who is also a Ketchikan assistant public defender.
District Attorney June Stein is representing the state.
