KCHS presents Christmas stage classic

The Kenai Central High School Choir Winter Concert will be Sunday at 3 p.m.

The concert will feature "Amahl and the Night Visitors." This is a one-act 45-minute opera, with haunting and touching music by composer Gian Carlo Menotti. Since debuting in 1952, it has become a Christmas classic.

The story is about the three kings following the star, seeking the Christ child. They stop for the night at the humble home of a poor mother and her son Amahl, a mischievous cripple.

The opera will take place for the first half of the concert.

The second half will feature solos and duets as well as the choir. The group will sing varied music from "Silent Night," "Little Drummer Boy" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" to the spiritual "Steal Away" and contemporary pieces like "O Come Let Us Sing ..." and "The Awakening."

A donation of $3 is suggested for admission.
