No. 1 Duke survives scare from Illini

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Jason Williams scored 23 points and Mike Dunleavy had 21 as No. 1 Duke beat No. 9 Illinois 78-77 on Tuesday night in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

With Duke up 70-68 with 3:53 left, Carlos Boozer hit two free throws, and Dunleavy made a layup and 3-pointer in a 30-second span as the Blue Devils (6-0) took a 77-68 lead.

But the Blue Devils had to survive a wild finish in which they turned the ball over twice in the final 1:31.

No. 12 Wake Forest 71, Michigan 60

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Robert O'Kelley scored 19 points to lead Wake Forest past Michigan in an ACC/Big Ten Challenge game.

No. 16 Connecticut 88, Brown 78

STORRS, Conn. -- Freshman Caron Butler scored 21 points and Edmund Saunders added a career-high 20 for Connecticut.

No. 18 Utah 93, Cardinal Stritch 47

SALT LAKE CITY -- Kevin Bradley and Jeff Johnsen each had 20 points for Utah, which played without coach Rick Majerus.

Majerus will miss about five weeks to strengthen a surgically repaired knee. He traveled Monday to Las Vegas, where he plans to undergo a rigid two-week rehabilitation program.

No. 20 Syracuse 73, Colgate 65

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Preston Shumpert and DeShaun Williams each scored 21 points for Syracuse.

Syracuse (5-0), fresh from its Great Alaska Shootout victory that vaulted the Orangemen into the Top 25, beat Colgate (1-3) for the 35th straight time.

No. 25 Arkansas 88, Centenary 57

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Joe Johnson scored 19 points and Arkansas made 15 3-pointers to beat visiting Centenary.

Brandon Dean added 15 points for the Razorbacks (4-1), and Jannero Pargo had 14.

Ronnie McCollum led Centenary (22) with 19.
