Special thanks go to Brent Johnson, one of the most entertaining auctioneers around, Dave Letzring for his great job in organizing this event, and all the volunteers and the people who donated their time and auction items to make this a great success for our ongoing historical projects.

We also thank Principal Ken Halverson for making Tustumena Elementary School available for this event.

Borough mayor, employees show importance of blood donations

Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center would like to say "thank you" to everyone who participated in our second annual Halloween Blood Drive. The blood drive was held in the assembly room of the Kenai Peninsula Borough building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 31.

Everyone was invited to come wearing their costumes and enjoy the goodies and decorations. The blood bank staff and several of the borough employees were in costume for the day.

This was a truly great blood drive. In just six hours, 55 individuals participated in this drive and 45 units of life-saving blood were collected.

Special thanks goes to Mayor Dale Bagley for not only sponsoring this blood drive, but also for helping to reach out in the community and teach others the life-saving value of blood donation by example. We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Beverly Dove, executive secretary of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Without Beverly's coordination, this blood drive could not have been the success that it was. We truly appreciate all of her hard work in getting the word out to the borough employees as well as the community.

We are looking forward to many more blood drives with our friends at the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
