Soroptimist offer volunteer award

Soroptimist International of the Kenai Peninsula is sponsoring the Violet Richardson Awards Program.

The award recognizes women from the ages of 14 to 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts.

The winner on the local level and the organization that she volunteers at each will receive a $200 cash award. The club-level winner becomes eligible for state and national awards. Applications are available at the Kenai and Soldotna public libraries, the Boys and Girls Club and area high schools.

Fish and Game to meet

The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the ambulance hall to review UCI and Board of fish proposals and consider submitting board of game proposals.

Domestic violence to be discussed

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue will hold its First Friday Dialogue meeting at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Peninsula College commons. The topic is domestic violence. A potluck dinner will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. It is open to the public.

The purpose of the dialogues is to bring people in the community together in a safe forum for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris Gehrett at 262-0367.

Mission fund-raiser planned

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church will hold a "cookies buy the pound" fund-raiser beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kenai. There will be a selection of homemade speciality cookies and pastries. All proceeds will go to its youth mission program. For more information, call 776-8328.

Historical society to meet

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Members who wish to will take turns telling about their first or some other memorable early Christmas in Alaska. It is open to the public.

'Toy and Joy' applications being accepted

The Salvation Army's "Toy and Joy" Christmas sign-up is now through Dec. 17. Applications are available at The Salvation Army family service office at 11824 Kenai Spur Highway. The office hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants are reminded to not wait until the last minute.
