Cardiac support group to meet

The Cardiac Patient Support Group meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the Redoubt Room, located in the lower level at Central Peninsula Hospital. The group invites male and female patients dealing with heart disease and their family members to participate. La Leche League meets

The La Leche League of Soldotna and Kenai meets the third Monday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Woman's Way Midwifery, 154 West Marydale Ave.; and again the first Tuesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mindful Therapies Yoga (by Curves at the Soldotna "Y"). The league is a breastfeeding resource group that offers free monthly meetings, mother-to-mother breastfeeding support, telephone assistance and a lending library. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are invited to attend. Babies are welcome.

The Kenai Public Health Center has appointments available for immunizations in Kenai and on Thursdays in Soldotna. To schedule an appointment or for questions, call 335-3400.

Winter open gym times at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center are:

Toddler Time: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays

Home School Gym: 1-2:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays

Family Gym: 1 to 3 p.m., Saturdays

Adult Open Gym: 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays

Community asked to help in teen's battle with cancer

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Kenai Central High School cafeteria to benefit Brittney Boyes, a KCHS sophomore who is undergoing treatment for AML leukemia at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Oregon. Dinner donation is $5 for children, $10 for adults, payable at the door. Members of the Kenai River Brown Bears hockey team will be servers. The event will include a silent/Chinese auction, split the pot, bracelet sales and other drawings.

Help needed to fight illness

Friends and family of Shannon Perry are asking for donations to assist in obtaining surgery for abdominal adhesions. Donations will be used to cover the costs of the surgery as well as travel and hotel expenses. Donations can be made at Wells Fargo to the Shannon Perry Fund. Christmas bazaar set

Christmas decorations and gift items are being collected for a second time around Christmas bazaar to be held Dec. 8 through 10.

Community members may drop off new or gently used items at the Kenai Senior Center. Call Velda Geller at 283-4329 for more information.

Snow sports time

TRAILS is gearing up for skiing and snowboarding again with Challenge Alaska and Alyeska Ski School. The first trip will be the weekend of Dec. 10 to 12, 2010. 1970s KCHS grads, get in touch

Organizers are planning a combined class reunion for all Kenai Central High School classes from 1970 to 1979. The reunion is scheduled for July 23, 2011. Toys for Tots drive under way

The 2010 Toys for Tots on the Kenai Peninsula campaign is here. Donate a new, unwrapped toy at any participating business sponsor listed on the campaign website: http://www.toysfortotskenaipeninsula.com/. Check the site often, as new sponsors are added frequently. The website also contains information on how to make requests for toys, plus background on the program and more. High schoolers offer free day care

The Soldotna High School Child Development course is looking for children ages 2-5 for their free day care. The dates are Thursday, Dec. 9, and Friday, Dec. 10, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. Snacks, games, and activities will be included. Children must be potty trained. The Soldotna Chamber presents the 10th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Wednesday Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Soldotna CES. Come join us for cookies, hot cocoa and hay rides. Bring your camera and take pictures with Santa. For more information call the Chamber, 262-9814.

Women's cancer support group meets

Brewers meet monthly

The Kenai Peninsula Brewing and Tasting Society will be meeting monthly, on the first Wednesday of each month. We welcome homebrewers and beer lovers from the area to join us in experiencing good craft beer. Our next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, at Kenai River Brewing Company, 241 N. Aspen Dr., Suite #100, Soldotna. We will be adopting by-laws and electing officers at the December meeting. More info is available on our Facebook page.
