Date set for court-martial of soldier charged with murder

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Fort Wainwright soldier charged with unpremeditated murder in the death of his infant stepson faces a court-martial Dec. 4.

Pvt. 1st Class Charles Miller, 21, a rifleman, is charged with the death of 9-month-old James Cody Michael Gray at a base recreation area during a family camping trip.

Miller, of Huntington, W.Va., had been married just four days when the baby died.

Miller is charged with shaking and striking the infant and with assaulting his wife, Tashawnda.

Miller also is charged with making a false statement under oath to military criminal investigators during the investigation and with other assaults on the baby.

Miller has been held at Fort Lewis, Wash., since June 5.

The trial is expected to last seven days.
