KODIAK (AP) -- The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has tentatively set Feb. 20 for a special election to choose a new mayor.
The borough assembly met in a special session Tuesday night to discuss the special election to replace outgoing Borough Mayor Gary Stevens.
Stevens, who has eight months left in his three-year term, was elected to the state House Nov. 7.
Deputy Mayor Robin Heinrichs will temporarily assume the mayor's duties.
The winner of the special election will serve until Stevens' term expires in October 2001 when the next municipal election is scheduled.
