FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A University of Alaska Fairbanks basketball player has been indicted on kidnapping and rape charges.
Cameron Watts, 18 is accused of kidnapping his former girlfriend at knifepoint last week, five hours after the 18-year-old woman told a judge Watts had tied her up and raped her in her dorm room on Nov. 2.
A grand jury found enough evidence Wednesday to charge Watts with two counts of kidnapping, three counts of third-degree assault and one count of first-degree sexual assault. He also is charged with violating a domestic violence restraining order.
Prosecutors are asking that Watts' bail be increased from $100,000 to $300,000. So far, that request has not been granted.
Watts, a former Lathrop High School basketball standout, was attending UAF on a full basketball scholarship.
