Seasons greetings.

I hope your holiday was full of thanks and giving. All year, especially this time of year we should think of those in the community less fortunate than ourselves. Donations of canned and nonperishable foods are being accepted at the Tustumena Elementary School for The Salvation Army Christmas basket program.

Also, many area businesses are participating in food drive to benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. Look for the collection barrels where you shop. The food bank provided 300 families with a turkey last year.

A speedy recovery and get well wishes to Clam Gulch resident Geoffrey Cox. Cox is recuperating at Alaska Native Medical Center from injuries sustained in an auto accident earlier this month. Best wishes, as well, to other involved motorists, Kasilof residents' Charlee and Andrea Parker.

Attention Kenai Peninsula students in grades one through six. It's time for the annual Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race poster contest. There is one poster entry per student and entries must be original on 8 1/2-by-11-inch paper; no tracing, computer graphics or copies are allowed.

Crayon, marker and colored pencil drawings should depict the musher and dog team's involvement in the T-200, friendly competition and the humane care of sled dogs. Entrants are asked not to fold their entries and to be sure to put their name, address, city, phone number, teacher's name, grade and school written in pencil on the back of their artwork.

Entries should be submitted to Jersey Subs in Soldotna by Dec. 8. The winners of the contest will ride in the ceremonial start of the race, and the winning picture will be reproduced on the official poster for the 2005 race.

Sue Gill, Kasilof resident and proprietress of Alaska Hairlines, invites Kasilof folks to participate in a charity challenge and salon-a-thon from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Peninsula Center Mall. Proceeds will benefit troops through the USO. The activities range from visits from celebrity stylists and technicians to personal Christmas card drive for troops, music, an auction and gift certificate and prize giveaways. For more information, to volunteer, pledge a donation or to make an appointment, call 262-2678.

Many Kasilof folks are having a birthday this week: Savanna Houser, Slick Rea, Betty Gee, Debra Hayes, Josh Tisdale, Matanya Bush, Randy Renner and Chris Fallon.

Celebrating their anniversary this week are Cindy and Rick Colton.

For those who are counting, there are only 24 more days until Christmas.

Have a jolly week.
