Peaceful people to meet

People for Peace and Justice will meet at 7 p.m. today at River City Books in Soldotna. The topic will be “Focus on Darfur.” For more information, call Mary Jo at 262-5447.

Community needs to be discussed

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue and the Kenai Peninsula Community College Student Union will hold a First Friday Dialogue meeting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Peninsula College commons. The topic will be community needs. A potluck dinner will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The purpose of the First Friday Dialogues is to bring people in the community together in a safe forum for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris Gehrett at 262-0367.

Soldotna historical board meeting slated

The Soldotna Historical Society board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at River City Books in Soldotna. It is open to the public.

Holiday bazaar offers homemade treats

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will host a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Star of the North Lutheran Church at 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai. Homemade treats, crafts, decorations and other miscellaneous items will be offered. Proceeds will benefit the churches mission work.

Kenai history buffs to meet

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday downstairs at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant.

The featured speaker will be Craig Fanning, officer in charge of the local unit of The Salvation Army. He will trace the history of the organization in Kenai, and his part in working with it in Kenai and elsewhere. It is open to the public.

CPCS board to meet

Central Peninsula Counseling Services board of directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 506 Lake St., Kenai. For more information, call 260-3691.

College financial aid to be discussed

Soldotna High School Financial Aid Night will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library. It is open to parents of juniors and seniors. The topics will be financial aid process including grant, loan and scholarship opportunities.

Cookies available to order

Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ Church is taking pre-orders for its annual cookie fundraiser. Deadline to order is Wednesday. Cookies will be ready for pick-up or delivery Dec. 13. Holiday decorating contest begins

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will accept nominations through Dec. 8 for businesses and residences that are exceptionally well decorated for Christmas.

Sponsored by the Homer Electric Association, first- through third-place awards will be given in commercial and residential categories. Winners will be announced at the Dec. 12 chamber luncheon.

Dessert auction set to entice

Kenai Central High School will host the school’s and Kenai Middle School’s holiday concert and third annual dessert auction Dec. 12 at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium. The funds raised will support new music, uniforms and additional instruments. The auction will offer an array of desserts. Preview of desserts begins at 6 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7 p.m.

Choir fruit fundraiser begins

The Kenai Central High School’s choir has begun its annual fresh fruit fundraiser. Orders will be taken through Dec. 12 with delivery made directly to purchasers Jan 12 through 15.

Cara-Cara navel oranges, ruby red grapefruit, D’anjou pears, tangelos, and red delicious apples area available to order. Gift samplers as well as bulk orders are available.

Orders may be placed through KCHS choir members or by calling, Renee Henderson at 283-7524 or Rocky DeMello at 283-3883.

Photos with Santa available

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai clubhouse will host “Pictures with Santa” and craft fair Dec. 17.

The club is seeking vendors interested in renting a table. The cost is $25 per table.

Kenai lighting contest plugs in

The Kenai chamber has begun its annual holiday lighting contest. Nominations may be called into the chamber office at 283-7989. Four prizes will be awarded.

Soccer coaches sought

Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club is accepting letters of intent for coaching during the 2007 season. Deadline for letters is Jan. 1. Applications must include the age level and gender coaches wish to instruct, as well as coaching experience. Letters may be mailed to KPSC, P.O. Box 393, Kenai AK, 99611.
