ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 25-year-old man has acknowledged he kept thousands of dollars in deposits he collected from Anchorage businesses while working as a security officer last year.
William ''Don'' Petty of Herlong, Calif., told a federal judge Tuesday that his job as a security officer was to pick up deposits from local businesses for KeyBank and drop them off at the bank.
But instead of giving them to the bank, ''I took the money,'' he said.
Petty pleaded guilty to two counts of bank theft.
Earlier this month, a federal grand jury charged Petty with stealing more than $11,000 one day last fall, and more than $68,000 on another day. Petty was working for Pinkerton Security Services at the time.
Petty faces about a maximum of 16 months in prison, according to his defense attorney. He is set for sentencing in February.
