Community Schools

The following list of Soldotna Community Schools classes and activities beginning this week is printed as a reminder to preregistered participants. Anyone interested in a class or activity should call the Community Schools office at 262-6768. Children are not allowed to attend an adult class or wait unattended while a parent attends a class.

Tuesday

Child and toddler tooth care with Jennifer Moeller, registered dental hygienist When should my child's first dental visit be? What are sealants? What about braces? Learn the answers to these and other questions through presentations and a question-and-answer period. The class is open to teens and adults with a 30-person maximum. It will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Soldotna Middle School computer lab. There is no fee.

Ongoing

Hall walking Soldotna Middle School is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for hall walking. Eight laps through the school is one mile. The cost is $10 a month.

Coming up

Note: The following two classes have been scheduled special for the Christmas season. These will be offered only if the minimum registration is reached a week before the class. All participants must preregister and prepay.

Silk Painting with Joyce Cox Each participant will have an opportunity to paint three scarves. No artistic ability is needed and supplies will be provided. The class is open to adults with a 10-person minimum and 15-person maximum. It will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 and 17 in the Soldotna Middle School home economics room. The $35 fee includes materials and supplies and should be sent to Soldotna Community Schools, 426 W. Redoubt Ave., Soldotna, AK 99669, prior to the class.

Christmas Bowl Centerpiece with Carroll Knutson, master florist Participants can learn the simple mechanics professional floral designers use to make beautiful bowl arrangements, while making their own Christmas centerpieces. Participants should bring a six-inch bowl, a small knife, a taper candle and Christmas greens, but no flowers. The class is open to adults with an eight-person minimum and 12-person maximum and meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Soldotna Middle School home economics room. The cost is $15 and includes flowers and floral materials.
