Fall book clubs available in the office for kindergarten through 12th-grade students are Scholastic, Troll and Trumpet. Orders should be brought to Tanya prior to Friday. Books should arrive before Christmas break.
The Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race poster design contest is open to all students in grades first though six. The winner receives a sled dog ride with a musher. Entries are due Dec. 8. Stop by the office for the entry form and complete contest rules.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Sport Fish is sponsoring a contest for cover illustrations for three of the 2005 Sport Fishing Regulation Summary booklets. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade can produce an illustration in any media, including as paint, colored pencil, marker or collage, that shows a memorable sportfishing event. The Kenai Art Guild's 13th annual kid's show will run Jan. 1 through 22. All children ages 2 through 12 are invited to bring artwork to the Fine Arts Center at 816 Cook St. in Kenai by Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. for entry in the show. There is a $2.50 entry fee per child and three entries are permitted. Questions may be directed to Debbie Harris at 283-7663.
Alaska students in grades seven through 12 are invited to develop a logo for the new LandCare Alaska program, sponsored by the Alaska Association of Conservation Districts. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize. Artwork must be original and submitted by Jan. 7. For more information, call the office.
Safe Sitter Classes for children ages 11 to 13 will be Dec. 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Central Peninsula General Hospital. The cost is $50. If interested, you must preregister by calling 714-4775 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
