Residents of the Kenai Peninsula won't have to travel to Anchorage this year to see a professional production of the Nutcracker Suite. December 12th-14th families will have the opportunity to experience Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite live at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at KCHS, featuring guest artists Etienne Lavigne and Xiao Nan Yu of the National Ballet of Canada in the principal roles accompanied by over 75 local dancers.
The event is presented by Vergine's Dance Studio of Soldotna, but includes a variety of talent from throughout the community. "This is an enormous undertaking, but our dancers are very well trained and are at a semi-professional level. The public is in store for a top rate performance," said Anna Stinsman, dance instructor at Vergine's Studio, and choreographer of the show. As opening night draws near, the dancers rehearsal time is intensifying, costumes are being fitted, and butterflies are swarming. "It's really coming together after a lot of long Saturday's and working through the summer. You're always nervous at first, but once you get out there and start dancing it all smoothes out" said Brittany Gardner, a dancer in many numbers including the Arabian spice dance.
