Kimberly Leavitt works on a gingerbread house during a class Saturday at Safeway in Kenai. Leavitt was one of a number of youngsters who attended the class. The workshop is part of a series being put on at the Kenai and Soldotna Safeway stores during the Christmas season.
The houses come pre-made, and children are provided with frosting and candy to decorate in whatever style they wish. According to many of the yuletide construction workers, the hardest part Saturday was making sure not to eat all the materials.

Safeway will hold workshops this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Kenai and Soldotna. The houses cost $13.99, but a $3 coupon is available at the store. With the ready-made houses, students get building materials and instruction from an expert Safeway employee. Space is limited, and anyone wishing to participate is strongly encouraged to sign up for the classes in advance. For more information, contact Safeway in Kenai or Soldotna.
