Wal-Mart film to be shown

Heather Rasch will host a viewing of “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,” a consumer awareness film about Wal-Mart, at 7 p.m. today at Kenai Alternative High School on Frontage Road. There is no cost. For more information, call 260-4093.

Soldotna historians to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold a board of directors meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at River City Books in Soldotna. It is open to the public.

Cookie fundraiser set to munch

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church will host its 11th annual cookie by the pound fundraiser from 10 a.m. until the cookies are sold out at the church at 225 S. Spruce St. in Kenai.

Wal-Mart to be discussed

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue and Kenai Peninsula College will hold a dialogue meeting from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday in rooms 133-135.

Two films will be shown: “Why Wal-Mart Works and Why That Makes Some People Crazy” and “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price.” A respectful dialogue will follow the films. Participants are asked to bring a potluck dish to share. The public is invited to attend.

The purpose of the First Friday Dialogues is to bring people in the community together in a safe forum for listening, speaking and learning.

Historical society meeting day changed

The Kenai Historical Society December meeting day will be Dec. 11 instead of Sunday. The group meets at 1 p.m. in the basement of Kenai United Methodist Church of the New Covenant.

USO performance set to entertain

The Kenai Performers will present a New Year’s Eve USO Variety Show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31 the Old Town Playhouse. A big-band orchestra conducted by Tammy Vollum-Matturro, dancing with All-American Dance N More and old-time radio spots are some of the planned entertainment.

Ticket prices include a prime rib dinner, midnight dessert buffet and a champagne toast. Tickets will be sold in advance at River City Books in Soldotna and Charlotte’s Restaurant in Kenai. The cost is $65 per person or $120 a couple.

Open house, portrait exhibit set

The Kenai Peninsula Art Department in conjunction with Kenai Senior Center Community Partnership will host a open house celebration of the Portrait Project Exhibition and Kenai Senior Citizens Center kitchen from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the center.
