Box of Christmas decorations found

A box of Christmas ornaments and decorations was found Friday night in Soldotna, alongside the Kenai Spur Highway near Kenai Auto. The finder said the box looks like it may have fallen off the back of a truck after being picked up from storage.

Send a sing-a-gram

Volunteers from Hospice of the Central Peninsula will be delivering sing-a-grams to workplaces or other locations. Each sing-a-gram will include two holiday carols sung by Hospice volunteers. A donation of $25 is requested.

CARTS to transport kindergartners

Central Area Rural Transit System is currently ready to transport Sears kindergartners who need a ride to or from school.

CARTS is also seeking volunteer drivers. For more information on either service, call 262-8900.

Refuge wood-cutting area reopened

The Funny River Road Firewood Area on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is now open for personal firewood cutting.

All persons using the area must first obtain a permit at the refuge visitor center on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna. Permits and maps may be obtained from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each permit is $20 and will have a seasonal limit of five cords of firewood or a comparable amount of corral poles.

Safari club to meet

The Alaska Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Don Jose's. The club works to promote outdoor heritage. The meeting is open to the public.

Remembrance celebration slated

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will offer its annual Celebration of Remembrance at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna.

Music, refreshments and bereavement materials will be available. No fee or collections.

Annual meeting planned

The annual meeting of Nikiski Senior Citizens Inc. is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Nikiski Senior Center. The group will elect new board members to fill the four open seats.

Decoration contest is on

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the annual Christmas Decorating Contest. Categories are commercial and residential and must be visible from the road.
