Gift ideas to help all

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is conducting its annual mail appeal, sending brochures in the mail that define the needs of the food bank. Funds are in desperate need around the holiday season.

Also, the food bank is displaying Tupperware for Christmas gifts. Fifty percent of all pieces sold through the food bank will go toward those in need of food on the peninsula.

Peer counselors to lead mothers group

The Kenai WIC office in the Seaman Building in Kenai will host a Mothers Group every Monday at 3 p.m. This group is for pregnant mothers who would like to meet other mothers in the community and discuss parenting issues. The group has a strong breast-feeding emphasis.

Homer center to give flu shots

The Homer Public Health Center has a supply of influenza vaccine for those wanting a flu shot. Adults can receive the shot Tuesday from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Library commission meeting planned

The Kenai Community Library will hold a library commission meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. They also will have toddler story time at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Safari club to meet, promote heritage

Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International will meet at Don Jose's Restaurant in Soldotna on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The club works to promote its outdoor heritage. The meeting is open to the public.

Kenai chamber to hold weekly luncheon

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will hold its weekly luncheon at Paradisos Restaurant in Kenai on Wednesday at noon. The speakers will be Robin Zerbel and Pat Shanahan of the World Trade Center's Seafood Institute Restaurant.

B-and-B association to meet Thursday

The Kenai Peninsula Bed-and-Breakfast Association will meet Thursday at 1:30 p.m., beginning at the Sterling Needle B-and-B, in Soldotna. At 2:30 p.m., the meeting will move to Longmere Lake B-and-B to allow new and prospective members to view two member B-and-B's. Election of association officers will be on the agenda.

Borough office to conduct siren test

The Kenai Peninsula Borough's Office of Emergency Management will conduct their alert siren test Thursday at noon. This test is conducted the first Thursday of each month unless it's a holiday.

Refuge open for holiday tree cutting

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is now open for cutting Christmas trees. The public is encouraged to trim the stumps of the trees as close to the ground as possible and call before cutting a tree.

Center to provide for those in need

The Independent Living Center will put together a Community Closet to provide for those with disabilities with equipment at a low cost. The center is looking for donations of wheelchairs, walkers and equipment for vision and hearing impairments.
