Soldotna senior selected for camp

Shaun Williams was recently selected for the Northwest Basketball Camps 2001 boys tour to Australia.

During the summer of 2000, more than 800 young athletes tried out for the NBC Camps International Tours at camps throughout the Northwest, Alaska, Canada, California and Great Britain. The selection process was based on athletic ability, personal character and moral excellence.

Williams is a senior at Soldotna High School and the son of Ric and Karen Williams of Soldotna.

Soldotna woman receives scholarship

Anya Fairweather Dale recently was awarded the $1,000 President's Scholarship from Western Washington University for the 2000-2001 academic year. The President's Scholarship awards more than 150 scholarships ranging from $500 to full tuition and is offered to entering freshmen and transfer students of superior academic ability.

She is the daughter of Karen Hummel of Soldotna.

Volunteer firefighters place in symposium

Mari Turtainen, EMT III, and R.J. Austin Jr., EMT III, both of Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Inc. won second place in the 25th annual Emergency Medical Services Symposium in Anchorage.

The five two-person teams competed against EMS providers while demonstrating skills in simulated medical emergencies.
