Palmer men missing on snowmachine outing

Posted: Wednesday, December 04, 2002

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Two snowmachiners missing since Sunday near Eureka Lodge were found safe Wednesday.

Bill Nichols, 44, and George Ahumada, 53, were spotted at about 11 a.m. by an Alaska State Trooper helicopter.

The men, both from Palmer, were in good condition, said trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson. The men had spent the past couple of days in a cabin with an oil stove after getting stuck in a box canyon, Wilkinson said.

The two men were being flown out by helicopter.

Troopers, volunteers and the Alaska Air National Guard had been searching since Monday for the men in an area about 75 miles east of Palmer.
