South skates past Kenai Central

South defeated Kenai Central 6-4 Saturday in a nonconference game at the Soldotna Sports Center.

The Wolverines grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first period before things really got hopping in the second period. Both teams scored four goals in the period, but Kenai was never able to tie the game or take the lead. The Kardinals received two goals from Brad Fusaro and a goal each from Michael Drobnick and Kegan Kiel.

Ben Boycott had 30 saves for the Kardinals, while Nathan Corey had nine saves for the Wolverines.

Skyview gets past Palmer

The Skyview hockey team defeated host Palmer 5-3 on Saturday in North Star Conference action. Gabe O’Lena got the victory in the net for the Panthers, while Scott Ralston led the Skyview attack with two goals.

On the trip to the Matanuska-Susitna valleys, the Panthers also lost to Colony on Thursday and picked up a forfeit victory over Wasilla on Friday.

Tri-Valley takes two from Nikiski

Tri-Valley took a pair of Greatland Conference games from Nikiski Thursday and Friday in Healy.

Thursday, three different players scored two goals apiece and goalie Eli Harris registered a shutout as Tri-Valley won 8-0. Jake Brewer, Kevin Clark and Vince Usibelli each scored twice to lead the way for Tri-Valley, while Garrett Ludwig and A.J. Mattielli each tallied once. Nikiski goalie Sam Zulkanycz stopped 26 shots for Nikiski.

Friday, Tri-Valley improved to 7-1 on the season with a 9-0 victory. Brewer had four goals and an assist while Joey Arquette added a pair of goals. Byron Hinman, Ludwig and Usibelli each scored once.

Tri-Valley goaltender Eli Harris registered his second straight shutout with a 21-save performance. Zulkanycz stopped 31 shots.
