Spaghetti dinner, auction set

A spaghetti dinner and auction fundraiser will be held Saturday at the Kenai Central High School cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $10 for individuals and $25 for a family.

Proceeds from the benefit will go to Ivy Howland and her family to help with medical and travel expenses in her fight against cancer.

Ivy is at the Seattle Children's Hospital undergoing treatment for medullablastoma. Tickets are on sale at Kenai Central High School, Kenai Middle School, Kaleidoscope School of Arts and Science, Mountain View Elementary and at the door.

H1N1 mass dispensing slated

A community mass dispensing clinic for the H1N1 vaccine will be held at the Kenai National Guard Armory from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday for school, preschool, Head Start, and daycare children and from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday the clinic is open to the general public.

H1N1 volunteers sought by Tuesday

The Community Mass Dispensing Clinic planned for Tuesday needs help from the community. The Central Peninsula H1N1 Task Force is looking for nurses and people to help with errands, registration and checkout.

The clinic will be split into two sessions: The first session from 1 to 4 p.m. is mainly where nurses and volunteers are needed. The session is for home-school, preschool, Head Start and daycare children.

Volunteers also are needed for the second session, from 5 to 8 p.m. This part of the clinic is open to ages 6 months and older. Both sessions will be held at the Kenai National Guard Armory at 105 S. Forest Drive in Kenai.

Free childcare offered

Soldotna High School Child Development students will have a free daycare Wednesday, Thursday and Dec. 11 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.

Wine tasting fundraiser slated

The Hospice of the Central Peninsula's 14th annual winter wine tasting and auction fundraiser will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center.

Tickets will go on sale Jan. 4 at the Hospice office in Bridges in Soldotna.

The organization is accepting and seeking donations for its planned auction.

Gourmet appetizers and specialty wines will be provided along with a silent auction, live auction, and a variety of instant purchases and raffle chances.

YFU seeks host families

Youth for Understanding at Kenai Peninsula College is recruiting two host families. Each family will be hosting a KPC college student for the spring semester -- first part of January to the middle of May.

One student is a female from the Netherlands and the other is a male from South Korea.

Host families are asked to welcome the student into their homes and provide a room and meals. In addition, each host family will receive a $200 a month stipend. Families are not expected to drive the student everywhere as they have their own funds for transportation.

Pool schedules announced

The Kenai and Skyview high schools pool hours are:

* Kenai Central High School -- 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., Lap Swim Monday through Fridays; 9 to 11 a.m. Physical Therapy -- Mondays; 3 to 5 p.m. Piranaha Swim Team, Monday - Fridays; 6 to 7 p.m. Lap Swim, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 6 to 7:30 p.m. master swim Thursdays; and pool rentals are available. The cost is $4 Lap swim or Open swim, $35 for a punch card/ 10 punches on the card, $15 for 1/2 hour of private lessons.
