Fairbanks teacher cleared of sexual abuse charges

FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks high school teacher has been acquitted of charges that she molested her three grandsons.

Sharron Clark sat quietly Monday as defense attorney Terrance Hall slammed his fist on the table. Hall then leaned over and hugged Clark moments after District Court Judge Raymond Funk voiced the jury's findings.

Hall said one of the big factors for the defense was the testimony of the eldest grandson, who recanted his grand jury testimony during the trial.

Even though Clark was acquitted, nobody came out a winner, Hall said. ''No one escapes undamaged from these allegations even if they are found not guilty,'' he said.

Clark, 55, remains employed at Lathrop High School in a non-classroom setting. She had been facing six counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count of second-degree attempted sexual abuse.
