Unocal offers reward in search for vandals

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Unocal Alaska is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those who vandalized a truck at the Beluga barge landing area on the western shore of Cook Inlet.

On September 27, between 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., someone removed a cap and valve from the drain pipe of a fully loaded sewage tanker truck which was waiting transport.

An estimated 3000 gallons of raw sewage spilled from the truck onto the ground. The same vandals are also thought to have caused damage to the truck's fuel lines, causing a 130-gallon diesel fuel spill.

All liquids were contained in the 8' by 100' area and none leaked into the waters of Cook Inlet.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at 262-4453.
