Chugach partially open to motorized use

Posted: Friday, December 05, 2003

Most areas of the Chugach National Forest that allow over-the-snow motorized use are now open. Areas open to motorized use on the Kenai Peninsula include Turnagain Pass, the Primrose Trail, Lost Lake, Resurrection Pass and the South Fork of the Snow River.

Twentymile and Placer River valleys remain closed due to insufficient snow depths.

The east side of the Seward Highway in Turnagain Pass is closed to motorized use. Parking has been expanded on the west side of the highway, and overflow parking is available at the Granite Creek Recreation Area at Mile 62 of the Seward Highway.

More information is available on the Web at r10/chugach or by calling one of the district ranger offices: 743-9500 in Anchorage; 424-7661 in Cordova; 783-3242 in Girdwood; or 224-3374 in Seward.
