Historical society to meet today

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant. Members who wish to will take turns telling about their first or some other memorable early Christmas in Alaska. Guests are welcome and invited to join in the storytelling.

Yellow ribbon tree under way

The Alaska Army National Guard is hosting a yellow ribbon Christmas tree. The Guard has teamed up with the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank as a collection point for nonperishable food and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Dec. 23. Bring a can of food, a yellow ribbon to hang on the tree and sign the Christmas message book to the troops deployed at 105 S. Forest Drive in Kenai.

Trails association to meet

The Tsalteshi Trails Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenai River Center. Association board members will be elected during the meeting. Anyone interested in the trails is invited to attend. For more information, call LuAnn Reynolds at 283-5062.

Women voters to hold luncheon

The Central Peninsula League of Women's Voters will meet at noon Thursday for their annual Christmas luncheon. For information and the location, call Marge at 262-3908 or Sue at 283-1063.

'Toy and Joy' applications being accepted

The Salvation Army's "Toy and Joy" Christmas sign-up ends Dec. 17. Applications are available at The Salvation Army family service office at 11824 Kenai Spur Highway. The office hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applicants are reminded to not wait until the last minute. For a list of information that is needed in the application process, call 283-4035 or stop by the office.

Band fund-raiser planned

A dessert silent auction fund-raiser to help purchase new uniforms for the Kenai Central High School band will be held Dec. 14 at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium in Kenai.

The event will take place during an intermission in the band concert scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

A variety of homemade holiday desserts will be available to bid on. For more information, contact Mary Kennedy at 252-4942.
