Former Peninsula resident makes the military grade

Sgt. Christopher Thomas, Alpha Company, 49th Missile Defense Battalion, was awarded the title of distinguished honor graduate at an Alaska National Guard Warrior Leader Course last month.

Thomas is the son of Paul S. and Kathleen Axtmann, of Kasilof.

Thomas was one of 24 students from across Alaska who participated in the training, which included written examinations, public speaking, Army warrior tasks and proving their ability to lead soldiers.

Thomas scored 96.4 percent during the academic and leadership portions of the course. He returned to his duty station at Fort Greely with a diploma and an Army Achievement medal.

Thomas was awarded the rank of sergeant on July 15, 2010.

The 49th Missile Defense Battalion is proud to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of one of its young leaders.
