Former Nikiski resident Charlene Rosalie Mason Hawkins died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in Hereford, Ariz. She was 67.
A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bisbee, Ariz.
She was born in Zion, Ill., in 1933. She married Bruce Hawkins in 1953, and the couple moved to Alaska in 1969. The couple left for Arizona in 1989.
Mrs. Hawkins was an active member of the Nikiski Church of the Nazarene. She sold real estate in the central peninsula area, and was a member of the Women's Flying 99's Club, and enjoyed flying her Cessna 150 for many years.
"She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was known for her bright smile and unselfish love of all she met," the family said.
Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Theodore Mason; and her granddaughter Pamela Gene Hawkins.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bruce, of Hereford; sons and daughter-in-laws Dale and Cheryl Hawkins of Soldotna, Lane and Jeannie of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sons Kent of Great Falls, Mont., Grant of Judith Gap, Mont., and Von of Hereford; brothers and sisters-in-law Warren and Hilve Mason of Bellevue, Wash., and Harold and Audrey Mason of Port Shepstone, South Africa; sister, Victoria Mason, of Roselle, Ill.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Shane and Sarah Hawkins of Kenai; grandchildren Chandra of Soldotna, Misty of Helena, Mont., Fawnda of Montana, Lena of Portland, Ore., Bruce of Soldotna, Sondra, Shelby and Shawn all of Coeur d'Alene; and great-grandchildren Tylar of Portland, Jonathan of Kenai, and Kobe of Helena.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Hawkins' name at the Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 4368, Bisbee, AZ 85603.
