KENAI (AP) -- Ricky Gease has been hired as the new executive director of the Kenai Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Gease replaces Kathy Tarr, who resigned the position to go to school in Pennsylvania.
Gease will run the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and promote tourism. He has worked at the center since 1998 as manager of exhibits and education.
Gease holds a master's degree in biology from Stanford University and had previously worked as an interpretive park ranger in Seward.
In his new job, Gease said he will work to promote Alaska and Kenai as tourism destinations. In addition he said he will work with others in the visitor industry to deal with the economic fallout and travel disruptions caused by the September terrorist attacks.
Gease lives in Kenai with his wife, Kenaitze artist Bunny Swan Gease.
