Kenai resident Debbie J. Howard died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in her home, surrounded by her family, after a battle with lung cancer. She was 44.
A celebration of life will be held at Kenai Joe's at 2 p.m. Saturday. At her request, she was cremated, and her ashes will be buried alongside her mother in the Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton, Wyo., at a later date.
Mrs. Howard was born Feb. 24, 1957, in Riverton. She moved to Alaska in 1985. She was a homemaker and grandma.
Her special interests were her two granddaughters.
"Debbie was very special to a lot of people," her family said. "She was loved by all and will be greatly missed."
"My grandma was my best friend," her granddaughter Debra said.
Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her mother, Marlene J. Shepardson; and her grandfather, Paul Wells.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dale Howard; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Jamie Gerow; son, Casey Howard; granddaughters, Debra and Rebecca Gerow, all of Kenai; her father, Robert Shepardson; sisters Diane Barcheers and Darla Shepardson of Wyoming, Donna Hoggatt and her husband Orsen of Nevada, Denise Olsen and her husband Johnny of Utah, Dee Nui and her husband Moe of Wyoming; brothers Terry Shepardson of Indiana, Tracy Shepardson and his wife Jo of Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you quit or help a loved one quit smoking.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
