School appreciates flag-folding ceremony in honor of Veterans Day
We here at K-Beach Elementary were given a special treat on Nov. 9. We were visited by several veterans from the VFW Post No. 10046, who treated us to a flag-folding ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.
I would like to thank the kind gentlemen from Post 10046: Herb Stettler, Sam Huddleston, Don Cray, Jim Mockridge, Dave Morse and Roy Gordon.
I also would like to thank custodian and veteran Steve Wright, principal Trena Richardson and all the other wonderful people who helped out with our "Wall of Stars."
The gentlemen from Post 10046 have been kind enough to visit us for the past three years, and I hope they will continue to return for many years.
Students learn Iditarod lessons in special clinic
Nine home-school students were taught all about the life of an Iditarod musher.
"I learned a lot at the Iditarod clinic. I learned how to harness a dog, put booties on the dog, how to drive the sled, how much gear you have to put on, how to make fish head stew for the dogs, and most important, how to take care of the dogs," writes Diana Rice, a Connection's student, summing up the very enjoyable morning at the Seaveys' home in Sterling.
We'd like to thank Tyrell Seavey for the wonderful job he did presenting to our group, Janine Seavey for organizing and hosting the clinic, Conway Seavey for keeping everyone laughing, and Dallas Seavey, Derrick Gutting and Akiko Toyobe for managing the dogs and
driving the sleds.
Everyone had a great time and learned a lot about taking care of a sled dog team.
