Alert siren test planned
The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management will conduct its monthly alert siren test at noon today. The test consists of the attack and alert tones. The test is conducted on the first Thursday of every month, unless it's a holiday. For more information, call 262-4910.
Soroptimists to meet today
Soroptimist International of Twin Cities will meet today at Peninsula Steak House. Jane Stein, president of Bridges, will speak at 5:30 p.m. The monthly business meeting will follow at 6:30.
Evening story time at Kenai library

The Ninilchik Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual membership meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Ninilchik Emergency Building.
Aviation safety meeting to be held today
There will be an aviation safety meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Kenai Merit Inn. The topic will be "Lubrication Misconceptions" with Ed Barnes of Exxon Corp., an industry expert. Resource Development Council meeting planned
The local chapter of the Resource Development Council will have its monthly meeting at noon Friday at the Merit Inn in Kenai. The guest speaker will be a representative from the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA). The presentation will focus on small-business marketing for tourist-related businesses.
Hospice to hold remembrance celebration
Hospice of the Central Peninsula will hold the annual Celebration of Remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. The nondenominational service developed by a hospice chaplain and registered nurse is based on the ritual of the four seasons. The program will include the color guard from the V.F.W. Post No. 10046 and music from Lois Holleman, Erin Southwick and Hannah Kasukonis. Hospice volunteers will be available after the program to answer questions on hospice programs and services. Refreshments will be available.
Hospice will also host a Remembrance Tree. For a donation of $10 to the hospice program, participants may designate that a star be added to the memorial tree. The tree will be lit following the Celebration of Remembrance and stay lit through Jan. 2. The deadline for stars is Dec. 20. Anyone interested in a star or in more information about the Celebration of Remembrance can call hospice at 262-0453. Donations support the local nonprofit volunteer hospice program, which provides services for people with terminal illness, their families and all bereaved community members.
Swimming tryouts to be held

Women's holiday luncheon planned
Peninsula Take A Break invites all women to join them at their holiday luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Paradisos Restaurant in Kenai. Linda Steimaker of Petal Pushers Flower Shop will be presenting ideas for holiday decorating on a budget and will also be the inspirational speaker. Child care will be provided.
