It has come to my attention that an offer is pending on the Anchor Trailer Court situated along the Kenai Spur Highway in the downtown core area.
My concern is that not only are the current residents going to be displaced but will be replaced with 30-foot modular homes (similar to those used in the Katrina disaster for FEMA) for low-income housing.
As a resident and property owner in Kenai not far from the subject property, I feel that this type of development will not provide any economic enhancement to the city and most certainly will have an adverse effect on property values in the area.
I have talked with city officials and find that the current zoning does provide for such a development as long as it meets city and state codes. Perhaps now is the time for a zoning change of this area to encourage further residential and recreational development.
